10/12/22: This week in 8th Grade Social Studies, students have learned that they will be a part of a fundraising effort to help orphaned children in Uganda. They have been researching and distinguishing between our local non-profit partner, TEEEM, and our global partner, Nyaka. We have created a plan, worked through financial decisions, designed t-shirts to spread awareness, and will soon reach out to the community for their assistance. We have set a goal of $5,000. This goal is symbolic of the initial $5,000 founder and CEO of Nyaka, Twesigye Jackson Kaguri, used to build the first 2 room school in his home village. Mountain Lakes, can we build a school in Uganda? Let’s do it together!
10/4/22: Students in 8th grade Social Studies have (unbeknownst to them) embarked on a philanthropic mission. We have learned about how one can show empathy for someone close to them and others whom they have never met. In addition, we discussed the mission of the United Nations and their Universal Declaration of Human Rights. We listened to the words of Malala Yousafzai inspire and challenge the world to assist the 57 million children that do not have access to an education. Next week, students will learn about our upcoming project to support the children of Uganda in their quest to become educated. With the assistance of our partners, TEEEM and NYAKA, Mountain Lakes will help schools in Uganda “Receive Funding, Operational Support, and a Collaborative Opportunity to Save Lives and Empower Communities.” More details on how you can help will be communicated at a later date.
