Strategies Intervention

The Strategies Intervention Program, formerly known as Basic Skills Instruction, is a monitoring system for students who have specified weaknesses in areas of Language Arts and Mathematics. Students who are eligible for the program will be instructed one or two periods per week during Physical Education and/or Allied Classes. Students will have appropriate academic intervention from the diagnosed weaknesses and/or remediation of a grade-level skill as per the classroom curriculum.

Briarcliff uses State Testing scores and teacher recommendations for the Strategies Intervention Program eligibility.

The primary goals for this intervention program are:

  • Remediation of basic skills that are weak, via students' diagnostic scores in Mathematics and Language Arts.
  • Remediation of content skills according to the PARCC cluster scores.
  •  To help individual students meet grade expectations by reinforcing skills and working on learning strategies.

An additional component to the Strategies Intervention Program is to support students who don't perform well on any one classroom assessment. Immediate feedback and remediation is an important teaching technique to becoming proficient in that content skill; this is a temporary situation (i.e.: one-two teaching sessions).

The newest component of the Strategies Intervention Program is math pre-requisite Skills remediation. These are skills that were learned in earlier grades or earlier chapters. They will be the foundations for upcoming units that we will be covering this year, so we need to make sure you know these skills solidly.
