Dear Briarcliff 8th Grade Parents,

At this time of year everyone has quite a busy schedule. We thought it would be helpful to go over the end of the year activities and requirements to enable you to plan ahead.

  • May 2019:  At the end of the 8th grade school year a special photograph is taken of each child by our Home & School Association and will be displayed in the front foyer on the night of graduation.  After the ceremony, parents should take their child’s photograph. These pictures will be taken at various times during the month of May. Reminder announcements will be made during the day for students as these times draw near.
  • May 7th – 9th: NJ Student Learning Assessment (Language Arts & Math) testing (all grades).
  • Friday, May 10th, 7:00 p.m.:  Briarcliff/Boonton Twp. 8th Grade Mixer at MLHS.
  • Tuesday, May 14th, 7:00 p.m.:  BC Art Show & Spring Concert.
  • Wednesday, May 29rd – Thursday, May 30th, 8:00 a.m.:  8th Grade NJ Student Learning Assessment (Science).
  • Monday, June 10th, 6:00 p.m.:  Boston Trip Parent Orientation - Briarcliff auditorium. The 8th grade team will present all necessary information regarding our trip. If your child is attending this trip, attendance at this meeting is mandatory for the parent(s) and the student(s).

  • Friday, June 14th:  Field Day  - Outside competitions planned for the day, 12:15 p.m. early dismissal. Dress comfortably!  (Rain date - Tuesday, June 18th  with a 12:15 p.m. dismissal if we postpone from 6/14/18).  Our Home & School Association sponsors Field Day pizza!  Sports physicals for incoming freshman at Mountain Lakes High School, 2:45 p.m.  Students must arrive with completed sports physical forms signed by a parent or guardian.  Sports physical forms can be picked up in the Briarcliff Health Office.
  • Monday, June 17th , 7:00 p.m.8th Grade Completion Ceremony.  Please arrive early and be seated before 7:00 p.m., reserving seats will not be allowed.  We would like to encourage those families who live in walking distance of Briarcliff to walk to the ceremony.  All event parking will be in the back of the building; there will be no parking available in the front circle.  A reception sponsored by our Home & School Association is held immediately following the ceremony on the front lawn (weather permitting).  Graduate attire:  Girls wear an appropriate summer dress; boys wear dark dress pants or khakis, a white shirt and a tie. No jacket is required. We do request that “sneakers” or tennis shoes not be worn.  The parent sponsored Mountain Lakes Club graduation party for our 8th graders will be held immediately after the completion ceremony on June 14th.  The 8th grade parent coordinators typically contact families directly with details.
  • Tuesday, June 18th: Last day of school, 12:15 p.m. dismissal.

It has been an absolute pleasure to spend this year with your middle school child. We look forward to the end of the year events and will see you at the completion ceremony!

Subject: School Visitor Update

Hello Briarcliff Families!

Today marks the first day that Briarcliff Middle School has a functioning security vestibule. When you visit our school now, you will notice that we have a vestibule secured in the front of the building. After arriving to our front door, you will need to be “buzzed” in from outside so you can enter the vestibule. This is the same process we always use to enter the building, only now you will enter into a vestibule. Once you enter the vestibule:

1) you can drop off anything your child would need on our table/cart and you can exit from the vestibule back to the outside. We will ensure that your child will get what was dropped off.

2) If you are visiting for a meeting, you would then need to be “buzzed” in from the vestibule into the building and report directly to the main office.

3) If you are visiting to pick-up your child, you would need to be "buzzed" in from the vestibule into the building and report directly to the main office.

The procedure to enter from the vestibule to the school is the same as entering from the outside, you will press a button that is exactly as the one outside and that rings to the main office. School safety & security are extremely important and this vestibule is an added layer of security for our building. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me with any questions or concerns.
